THE DEADLIEST MATCH
“You promised me a cruise! A nice vacation. Cruise around Alaska, see the Northern Lights, you said. You promised me a bloody Aurora Borealis. This. Is not. An. Aurora Borealis!”
“Well, it is Alaska, well, the waters off the coast of Alaska, well, more precisely, the Bearing Straight, but I’m sure you could see Northern Lights from here.” The Doctor gave Donna his best “but you’ll still be my friend” grin but it wasn’t working. Just then a 30 foot wave launched itself across the bow of The Northwestern. It was followed by the shouts of the crew as they pulled a crab pot over the side, dumping the contents to be sorted.
That’s when the Captain noticed he had stowaways. “Who the hell are you and how the hell did you get on my boat?” he yelled over the intercom. The crew stopped to see what he was ranting about. “Don’t stop working!” he yelled.
“My name is Donna Noble.” It was frightening that she could be heard over the crashing waves without any help at all. “Pretty lousy accommodations if you ask me.”
“Well I didn’t ask you. This is a crab boat, not a f***ing hotel, and you are not supposed to be here.”
“Crab boat! Crab boat!” She turned to look at the Doctor wide eyed, and even wider mouthed. “You’ve brought me on holiday on a cruise where the men all have crabs?”
“Donna, that’s not what he meant.”
Donna was again shrieking at the Captain. “In isolation are you? Does the cold kill them?”
Just then another wave washed over the deck, larger and more forceful than its predecessor. It knocked both travelers into the TARDIS door, which the time ship opened to let them fall through. Water washed through the grating as the pair was slammed into coral struts and then the console. The TARDIS siphoned off the water in her interior while her passengers recovered their feet.
“Donna, that’s not the kind of crabs the captain was talking about,” the Doctor said, rubbing the spot on his head where it had collided with the console.
“Oh I know,” Donna replied. The she grinned a rather cheeky grin. “But you should have seen the look on your face.”
